As another assignment I thought would be a lot of fun, I decided to try to tell a story using at least 5 gifs (I used more than 5) and then the readers will guess what story it is. I’ll give you a hint: It’s a greek myth.

For the big reveal:

The story is of Eros and Psyche! Eros, the son of Aphrodite is ordered to make a mortal woman, Psyche fall in love with the ugliest man alive as revenge for her earning so many suitors (Aphrodite was jealous). As Eros was about to fire an arrow to make Psyche fall in love, he accidentally pricked himself and ended up falling for her! Wanting to hide his identity, the two met in the night and fell in love, until one night when Psyche’s curiosity got the better of her and she lit a candle to see his face. Eros fled, furious for her betraying his trust. Psyche, heartbroken after the disappearance of her lover, pleads with Aphrodite to reunite them–which the goddess agrees to after Psyche completes some tasks. As a reward, Psyche is turned into a goddess and is reunited with Eros in Olympus. The Butterfly at the end signifies her wings that she’s well known for having in her goddess form.

To create this, I simply used Giphy and looked up key words to describe emotions. Oddly enough, finding a good angry face that wasn’t cartoonish was fairly difficult but I think it turned out alright.

The photo is a scene from a webtoon I read about a year ago, called Lore Olympus, which involves Eros’s story. It’s greek gods in a modern setting with the focus on Persephone and Hades’ story. The art style and world development it super interesting and if you’re looking for a greek inspired comic this is what you should give a read.

  1. I love Lore Olympus! I am currently reading many comics on webtoons. I didn’t know the full story of Eros and Psyche (since the focus from Lore Olympus is really Persephone and Hades) so I wasn’t able to guess it. But after reading the story, I think that the GIFs make sense, and they really add a humorous spin to the tale. “The audacity!” and “run away!” haha

    1. It’s honestly probably my favorite webtoon I’ve read. I love the art style and the writer’s imagination and creativity with the world and the characters blows me away every time. It was tough to make the gifs make sense but I’m glad that after reading the story it made more sense. I loved Eros’s story in Lore Olympus (honestly hadn’t heard it before then).
